Drug & Alcohol Policy
LEMISSOLER SHIPMANAGEMENT LTD is committed to ensuring the provision of a safe environment for everyone onboard and especially in respect of Drug and Alcohol Abuse by members of crew, which apart from hampering their own ability to perform duties in a safe and responsible manner, can also jeopardise the safety and efficiency of their shipmates and of the vessel itself.

 

In order to effectively implement its Drug & Alcohol Policy the Company has adopted the following:

  1. Drug and Alcohol abuse in any form will not be tolerated on board any vessel at any time. Offenders will be dismissed instantly and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
  2. In this context the following shall be deemed as drug/alcohol abuse. - Possession and/or use of illegal drugs regardless of quantity. - Possession and/or use of alcohol, without the consent of the Master, regardless of quantity. - Any use of controlled substances which cause or contribute to unusual job behaviour or unacceptable job performance. - Use of legitimate drugs in any form other than in strict accordance with the prescription of a qualified doctor and with the knowledge of the Master. 
  3. The Master must immediately report any drug/alcohol abuse or circumstances involving drugs/alcohol on board, to the Company. 
  4. Officers and crew on watchkeeping shall not consume any alcohol during the period of duty and within 4 hours prior to serving as a member of watch. 
  5. Insobriety, amounting to inability to perform duties in a safe and responsible manner, may result in termination of services. 
  6. No person with an alcohol abuse problem will be permitted to work. 
  7. Unannounced searches for alcohol and drugs may be conducted on vessels. 
  8. Suspension of warning signs in apparent locations onboard is mandatory. 
  9. Searching before leaving the port maybe adopted.

Observation of the Drug and Alcohol Policy

It is the personal responsibility of the Master, Officers and Ratings to observe that under no circumstances will they consume alcoholic beverages or use substances that cause intoxication. 

Their responsibility is to be able to carry out both routine and emergency duties in a competent and capable manner, unimpaired by the effects of alcohol or drugs.

Seafarers must always bear in mind that their actions not only ensure their own safety, but also the safety of others and the vessel and the protection of the environment.

The Master is overall responsible for the implementation of this policy.
