PRESS RELEASE – Art Exhibition with theme “Sea and Shipping”

On Sunday May 5th, 2019 the Tsavliris Cultural Foundation, chaired by Mr. Philippos Philis, hosted an Art Exhibition, themed “Sea & Shipping”, organised by a team of Lemissoler staff at the Morfi Gallery in Limassol.

The Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nicos Nicolaides outlined the importance of the Sea and Shipping for the city of Limassol, while the Director of the Pattichion Municipal Museum – Limassol Archives Mr. Mimis Sophocleous paralleled the “Wooden Walls” that saved the city of Athens in the ancient times, with the new “Wooden Walls” that have uplifted Limassol and in extension Cyprus and its economy. Furthermore, in Mr. Sophocleous’ words, since Limassol based shipping companies portrait artworks with harbours and vessels, can become an open and rich Maritime Gallery.

Mr. George Tsavliris, Honorary President of the Tsavliris Cultural Foundation, in an emotional welcome speech, expressed his family’s commitment and love for Cyprus and shared his sentiment of admiration for the people of Cyprus.

The Deputy Minister of Shipping, Ms. Natasa Pilides, opened the ceremony with inspirational words for the future of the shipping industry. She underlined the importance of both synergies and education and expressed her pleasure as the proceeds of the Exhibition will be used to fund a scholarship for a Master degree (MSc) in “Shipping and Finance”, at the Cyprus University of Technology, in Limassol.

As a token of his deep appreciation, Mr. Tsavliris gave the Honorable Deputy Shipping Minister, Ms. Pilides, the Tsavliris Group book with regards to the passionate journey of the Tsavliris Family in the fascinating and romantic business of shipping.

The aim of the Tsavliris Cultural Foundation is to promote the spiritual and artistic creativity of people who contribute to the questioning and quest for a better, spiritual and humane society such as artists, intellectuals, thinkers on civilisation, society, education and spiritual culture.
