CSC’s previous president Mr. Philippos Philis and General Manager Mr. Thomas Kazakos participated, as part of the Cypriot delegation, in a meeting of the Board of Directors and in the General Assembly of the European Community Shipowners’ Association -“ECSA” which took place on December 9, 2021 in Brussels.
Among the main topics discussed during the governing Council meeting, was the Union’s strategy for addressing environmental challenges. Such a challenge, is the inclusion of Shipping in the European Commission’s Climate and Energy Package by 2030 (“FIT for 55”), the ongoing crisis of changing crews due to the pandemic as well as issues related to ship recycling.
An important event during the General Assembly was the official appointment of Mr. Philis as the new president of the Union by its Board of Directors, valid on January 1st 2022. Mr. Philis, who was elected Vice-President in October 2019, is expected to take over the duties of President of the Union with the new year, for a period of two years. The event is an important success and recognition for Cypriot Shipping but also an important opportunity to participate even more actively in the formulation of European shipping policy.
We want to wish Mr. Philis all the best in his new endeavors as President of ECSA beginning from January 1st 2022!
